The Marcy Casino is the perfect venue to showcase Buffalo’s past, and resurgence...

Nestled between Hoyt Lake and the lovely Rose Garden, the views from the Marcy Casino are some of the best in the city. Visitors enjoy the sight of the surrounding 350 acres of Delaware Park, as well the architecture of our neighbors in Buffalo’s cultural district: the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Buffalo History Museum.
A Bit of History: plans for Delaware Park were designed by renowned landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, in 1868. By 1874, his partner, Calvert Vaux, designed the original boathouse, which was destroyed by a fire in 1900. The structure was rebuilt in time for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition that took place throughout Delaware Park. It was this new 3-story building, designed by Buffalo architect E.B Green, that officially became known as the Delaware Park Casino, and served as a popular gathering place until 1960. It has never been a gaming casino, but the term “casino” is an antiquated one for a community gathering spot.
The expanding city, and the move toward modernization, led to the total renovation of the Casino in the 60’s. In 1990, it was 'restored' to a style that reflected Olmsted, Vaux, and Green's simpler designs. Today, it is known as the Marcy Casino in honor of William L. Marcy, Jr., Delaware District Councilman 1978 - 1983, for his devotion to the Casino preservation and restoration, and the City of Buffalo.
